Military Appreciation Day, US Senior Open Championship, Tuesday, July 8, 2014
Edmond, Okla. (June 16, 2014) – The United States Golf Association (USGA), in conjunction with the Oklahoma-based Folds of Honor Foundation, will honor the military in Oklahoma and around the country by hosting Military Appreciation Day during the 2014 U.S. Senior Open Championship, held at Oak Tree National, on Tuesday, July 8.
All current and former military personnel and their families, whether active, retired, or veteran, with proper identification (whether a military ID, a Form DD 214, or other reasonable evidence of service) will receive complimentary admission on July 8 for Tuesday’s practice round. Military personnel will be able to secure their tickets at the admissions gate. Red, white and blue ribbons will be distributed at the Main Admission gate to distinguish military in the crowd.
Military Appreciation Day at the 2014 U.S. Senior Open will begin at 7 a.m. on the first tee, with the presentation of colors by the Governor’s Honor Guard, Oklahoma National Guard. Immediately following, daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Barry and Stacie Vincent, Ashten Vincent will perform the national anthem. Throughout the day, members of various military branches will announce the players teeing off on the first and 10th tees, as well as tending the flagsticks, with the American flag, on the 9th and 18th greens.
An exhibition will be held at 2 p.m. on the practice range, including FHF Founder Major Dan Rooney, and decorated veteran, Major Ed Pulido, representing Folds of Honor, joined by 1995 U.S. Open champion Corey Pavin and 1996 British Open champion Tom Lehman. Both players shared the runner-up position in a four-way tie at the 2012 U.S. Senior Open. The show incorporates great golf, great fun and an inspiring message.
“As both a golf professional and veteran, it’s an honor to participate in the U.S. Senior Open’s Military Appreciation Day,” said Major Dan Rooney, FHF founder. “Corey (Pavin) and Tom (Lehman) have long stood behind Major Pulido and me and our Folds of Honor mission, and we’re thrilled to have their support in ensuring the educational future of our nation’s veterans and their families.”
Military Appreciation Day runs in conjunction with the USGA’s initiative that provides free admission for all kids 17 and under when accompanied by a ticketed adult. Each ticketed adult can bring up to nine (9) kids. The remainder of the week, all military personnel will receive 50% off tickets.
