This year’s South Dakota Pheasant Hunt was sponsored by a family in Kansas City whose parents met during WWII. The father was healing from a combat wound that earned him a Purple Heart when he met his wife. She was a nurse and an officer while he was an enlisted soldier.
The regulations are clear that this is unacceptable so they did the only thing they could do, they got married ten days after they met. They then proceeded to live happily ever after. They have both since passed.
The family is sponsoring the event to honor their parent’s service, sacrifice, and enduring love. The hunt is now the Floyd and Kathryn Dale Memorial Hunt.
*Thank you Dale Family for sharing these photos and memorabilia of your parents, their uniforms and burial flag. The FEW is very honored.
