Hunting Guide
Warrior Hunt at Welker’s
Exceptional Warrior Hunt planned for Tripp County.
Three exceptional warriors will be among a group of six who will be taking part in a pheasant hunt at the Dewayne Welker’s of Hamill on Oct. 21-23.
The Welker family is hosting their third event for the Foundation for Exceptional Warriors—The FEW. This organization provides outdoor therapeutic activities for exceptional warriors at no cost to the warrior.
The hunt in Tripp County is being sponsored by the family of Floyd and Kathryn Dale whose parents met during World War II. The hunt will be called the Floyd and Kathryn Dale Memorial Hunt.
There will be three solders coming to Tripp County and all three were wounded together in the same fire fight in Afghanistan. This will be the first time the three soldiers will be together since they were wounded and evacuated from the battle zone via helicopter. All three warriors received the Purple Heart for their wounds received during the fire fight and the warrior that pulled one of the soldiers to safety received the Bronze Star with valor for his selfless act of courage.
There will also be two Vietnam era veterans attending the event that both earned the Purple Heart during their time of service with one of them serving with the 1st Infantry Division, the same division that Floyd Dale was in.
There will be three associates helping with the veterans on this trip and all three have Purple Hearts. All are volunteers and one is a special operations veteran.
Also taking part and hunting will be a girl friend of one of the hunters who is confined to a wheel chair.
One of the soldiers who will be in Hamill said in an e-mail: “This is the first time in my life that anyone has done something like this for this old soldier who was wounded in combat. I am really excited and looking forward to meeting everyone.”
